Courtice is bounded by Townline Rd. on the west, Hancock Rd. on the east, Pebblestone Rd. on the north and Highway 401 on the south. It is geographically contiguous with populated parts of the neighbouring city of Oshawa, but separated by a band of rural wilderness from other populated parts of Clarington; accordingly, in the Canada 2011 Census, Courtice was counted as part of the population centre of Oshawa rather than that of Bowmanville/Newcastle. The Town of Bowmanville is part of the larger Municipality of Clarington which forms the eastern portion of Durham Region, immediately adjacent to the eastern boundary of the City of Toronto. Bowmanville has a population of approximately 30,000 residents. While the downtown area still has a quaint "small town" feel, Bowmanville is experiencing rapid commercial and residential development. The Town offers an abundance of recreational, leisure and sports activities. Bowmanville is located approximately 75 km east of Toronto and 15 km east of Oshawa along Highway 2.
The Town of Newcastle was also the original name of what is now Clarington. Newcastle is located about 80 km east of Toronto, and about 18 km east of Oshawa and Bowmanville on Highway 401. It is also the southern terminus of Highway 35 and Highway 115. Newcastle is filled and surrounded by agriculture farms raising cattle, pigs, apples, grain, and corn. Newcastle has a beautiful community hall, donated by the Massey family, one public high school (Clarke), two public elementary schools (Newcastle Public School and The Pines Senior Public School), one Catholic elementary school (St. Francis of Assisi), a post office, churches, a few plazas, several small parks, six restaurants, Tim Hortons, a recreation complex, an ice arena, a new fire hall, two grocery stores ( Foodland and No Frills), professional offices, hardware stores, a marina on Lake Ontario, and a golf course (Newcastle Golf Course).
